Welcome, trainer, to Hungry Wolf, a TFL and TAFL-approved fanlisting and shrine dedicated to Narita Brian, the notorious Shadow Roll Monster of Umamusume: Pretty Derby. Reserved and stubborn, picky and starved — Brian's sole focus in her career is to run, crush, and win; and, as a Triple Crown champion, she has clawed her way to the peak of the mountain, standing where few others have stood.

I wish I could remember what first drew me to Narita Brian. Like any good gacha character, her design is visually appealing: dark hair, gold eyes, with a cute little sprout sticking out of her mouth. Her garments feel haphazard, almost — though we know from the series signature racewear is anything but — with the shredded hemline of her coat and asymmetrical boots. Her personality screams through her clothes, through her intense stare, and through the blunt, rough chop of her hair: a wolf on the hunt, caught in the body of a stubborn, grumpy horsegirl.

She is, without a doubt, my favorite character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby — and, perhaps, one of my favorite characters in any piece of media. When shared through the eyes of her contemporaries, her story is a tragedy: a brief, heartaching peek into the life and legend of one of Japan's greatest racehorses — but when told by Brian herself, when one settles down to play through her career, it is a triumph. A victory lap of what if's that sees her claim banner after banner, victory after victory, clashing with the greatest competitors of any era — and you must win: to sate her hunger and finally fulfill a dream unrealized.

This is Narita Brian's story, and this site, Hungry Wolf, serves as my loveletter: to her greed, to her tenacity, and to the oft-concealed softness beneath her sharp edges. ❤
